Building moving is an economical alternative to building a new house. It provides instant equity - many of the people who move buildings do it for investment purposes.
Moving also greatly benefits the environment.
- By moving a pre-existing building, you are not consuming nearly as many natural resources to build an entirely new building. In addition, many of the materials used in the construction of buildings are produced in a non-sustainable way. The factories that make the materials produce damaging CO2 emissions. Although some branches, bushes, or, on the rare occasion, a tree may need to be removed out of the way of a building being moved, countless numbers of trees are saved in the long run.
- Many refer to building movers as "building recyclers" - those moved buildings would have ended up taking up space in our fast filling landfills. In fact, construction and demolition waste contributes to about half of all landfill space!
Building moving preserves history. Many of the buildings and homes we’ve moved have historical significance. These historical buildings couldn’t have anticipated the expanding hospital, highway, park, etc. but because we are able to move them to a better location, as opposed to demolition, a historical artifact is saved. Many of the historical structures we have moved, we have also contributed towards the moving costs.
